Avant Garde Festival

Tudela, Spain 2020

Avant Gard is a yearly mural festival in Tudela, Spain. I painted in the summer of 2020, right as we all started emerging again from lockdown life. This local TV feature describes the project and introduces the artists: Mina Hamada, Miss Van and myself. We had a really great time.

KTOWN LAB MURAL PROJECT

Philadelphia, USA (#ktownlab)

With my colleague Ethos and financial support from Mural Arts, I moved to the Kensington neighborhood in North Philly for the summer of 2018. Ethos and I met the neighbors, borrowed some ladders and got permission to paint over twenty murals and several delivery trucks. Simon Vasquez and Juanjo Surace flew in from Barcelona to help. It was an ambitious attempt to experiment with fast, grassroots and challenging street art in the marginalized neighborhoods where it was born. The theme needs further exploration and much better documentation, but we had a truly amazing experience and hope to do more someday soon.

KTOWN LAB MURAL PROJECT

Philadelphia, USA (#ktownlab)

This is a recap video that Mural Arts put together with some great drone footage of North Philly. Neighborhoods like this exist all around the world: marginalized, traumatized, dangerous places where the people are authentic, strong, colorful, happy to let you paint their whole house, proud of their culture, supportive and authentic in their reactions and participation. Art and the effort are really appreciated here. What a great place to paint.

Core Mural Festival

Santa Coloma, Barcelona, Spain

This mural celebrates a moment in the neighborhood’s history when community members appropriated a few city buses and protested until a bus line was added connecting them with the rest of Barcelona. Beautiful drone footage by Raul Acuña Rubio and Delabrave.

GrafFiti Wall In Philly

Philadelphia, USA

I Showed up to paint a wall one day and found this cookout. They gave me bud lights and this guy Ian Hirst-Hermans showed up with his drone and made this. The owner of the building liked it and later he asked me back to paint the whole wall.

VINCLES

Sant Vicenç dels Horts

In 2019 I worked with Contorno Urbano and the city of Sant Vicenç dels Horts. After talking to local historians and community members we developed the idea to paint one of the old textile mills that used to proliferate in the area. Many of them were staffed entirely by women and although the conditions were tough, they ushered in new independence and the first time women could earn their own money. The townspeople are proud of their role in the social progression of Spain in the last century.
